ARCò has been founded by a group of young engineers and architects, that considered architecture as the resolution of tangible problems through an aesthetic interpretation of reality. This methodological approach led ARCò to meet and cooperate with the world of international cooperation, aiming to solve emergency problems. After the first experience of Mozambique in 2007, promoted by Vento di Terra Onlus, the team grew up and became as it is in the 2009, thanks to the idea of a project in Palestine: the tyres school in Al Khan Al Ahmar, close to Jerusalem, always promoted by Vento di Terra Onlus.
The sustainability is developed in the social meaning with the search of special building techniques - suitable to the specific intervention site - which can be easily learnt and used by local inhabitants for self construction. Moreover, sustainability is achieved by economic means, through the choice of recycled and poor building materials. Finally, sustainability is developed by environmental means through the use of renewable energy sources and passive building.
The main target of each project is the transmission of knowledge and know-how, through a process of conscious re-appropriation of techniques and principles that already belongs to these places and culture. |
